The Laww Come’th: Showcasing The Real Laww’s Immense Talent
Hip-hop music along with Rap has its roots from New York. Since this genre has captured both the ears and interests of many, even other adjacent states on the East Coast were influenced by this music. Hip-hop icons like Notorious B.I.G., Tupac Shakur, Jay-Z, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, Wu-Tang Clan, and Run D.M.C. greatly shaped the course of Hip-hop through the years.
In North Carolina, the said genre is characterized as more aggressive with hard-hitting beats. Most of the lyrics discuss social issues and even political sentiments. One artist that is currently making waves in Durham is The Real Laww. His ability to sing, rap, compose, and produce work that are filled with realism and angst caught the attention of the Carolina Music Awards. In 2012, he was nominated as Best Male Hip-hop Artist and he also won the Video of the Year for the track called “International Laww.” This year, he is yet again nominated for both awards due to the song “Ninjas in DURM.”
This song was included in his latest EP entitled “The Laww Come’th.” With the help of social media, Hip-hop and gaming fans who gather on online communities of NC Hip Hop Connect, Castle Jackpot , and Magic Bus Forum; got hold of The Real Laww’s works. Through these entertainment internet platforms, the love for North Carolina Hip-hop spread like wildfire. The unusual tempo of “International Laww” makes it a standout among the other tunes. The EP contained 10 tracks that are all dominated with heavy bass drum beats, snare hits, and synthesizers. The first song called “Ninjas in DURM” immediately showcased The Real Laww’s swift rapping. “Alien” provides a calmer sound compared to the other tracks of the record. If you are looking for a song that you can sway to, “iGot It” is the perfect choice as it is filled with danceable snare rolls. “iC U Mover” on the other hand has a sci-fi feel to it due to the addition of autotune and electronica.
The Real Laww is truly a Hip-hop artist that deserves respect. He manages to keep his feet firmly planted on the ground regardless of his immense talent.

Only a few years ago Phive was just a cover band with a dream. Making a living playing frat parties up and down the east coast was their bread and butter. Then their first EP Freshman Gear, Garnered 4 features on the hit cable show Jersey Shore. From there momentum continued to grow. Signing with a booking agent, being chosen for the Xbox KSU college tour, and being featured on several other shows like Washington Heights, Kim and Kloe take Miami, and The Bad Girls Club were all things that have continued to grow Phive into a polished all around act. Now with the addition of Afika Nx, Phive is on another level. If the first singles are any indication, Phive is on the road to international stardom. J Timber continues to blend his Colombian roots into his love for rock and soul which adds depth. The Guitar riffs of Dante have become a huge part of the Phive sound. Mike J and DJ 818 add the rhythm section that deserves marquee recognition on it own.
